We love this time of year as we transition into the colder months. Cosying up by open fires, wearing our favourite wooly jumpers, stews in the slow cooker and mugs of hot cocoa warming our hands. It’s easy to get romantic about autumn and winter.
For us, the thing that makes these colder months so special isn’t just the idea of cuddling up inside in the warmth though, it’s the cold too. I mean as Olaf from Frozen says, “the hot and the cold are both so intense, put 'em together, it just makes sense”.
With the cold however also comes loads of other things we absolutely never look forward to. Colds and flu, reduction in daylight hours leading to winter blues, stiff muscles and joints and dry skin. Want to know an easy way to combat them all though? Saunas… of course (I mean it had to be on brand, didn’t it 🔥).
Boost your immune defense
As we enter the colder months, our bodies can be more susceptible to illness. Regular sauna visits can bolster your immune system:
Detox benefits: Sweating in the sauna helps flush out toxins, enhancing your body’s defences and promoting better health during flu season
White blood cell production: The warmth and mild stress from sauna sessions can stimulate an increase in white blood cells, essential for fighting off infections
Brighten your mood
The shorter days of autumn and winter can bring about Winter Blues, or even Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Sauna therapy can help lift your spirits:
Endorphin release: The heat encourages the production of endorphins, your body’s natural mood enhancers, helping to alleviate SAD symptoms
Stress relief: The tranquil atmosphere of a sauna provides a sanctuary for relaxation, reducing anxiety and fostering mental clarity
Relieve muscle and joint discomfort
Cold weather can lead to increased muscle stiffness and joint pain. Regular sauna use can provide soothing relief:
Relaxation of tense muscles: The warmth promotes muscle relaxation, easing discomfort and stiffness, especially beneficial for those active in autumn sports
Joint comfort: The gentle heat can alleviate joint pain and enhance flexibility, keeping you mobile and active even in colder conditions
Support healthy skin
The dry, chilly air of autumn and winter can wreak havoc on your skin. Sauna sessions can help maintain your skin’s vitality:
Deep cleansing and hydration: Sweating opens up pores, purifying your skin and giving it a radiant glow
Nutrient-rich blood flow: Improved circulation from sauna use delivers essential nutrients to your skin, helping it stay nourished and vibrant despite the harsh elements.
Now imagine embracing the ruggedness of the elements and coupling it with the benefits of saunas. A long walk on the beach as the wind whips and then jumping into our Dunwich sauna. A run into the bracing temperatures of the sea and then warming up in our Sea Palling sauna. Dog walks across rolling hills to get to our Sheringham sauna where you can rest, reset and cosy up.
Now really is the time to embrace saunas. Warm your body, uplift your spirits and maintain your overall health. There’s no better way to transition into the seasons.
